We first had the pleasure of working with Jamie and Jason for their romantic engagement session in Arizona’s Lemon Grove. They had met back in law school and had planned a country-themed wedding celebration at a private estate with some of their closest lawyer colleagues and family.
We arrived in the late morning to capture both the bride and groom as they made their final preparations for this special day. Jason was with the boys getting ready in a suite at the Hilton Garden Inn, while Jamie was with her bridesmaids and mom in a room at the private residence where both the wedding ceremony and reception were to be held.
We captured some close up portraits of Jason in his light grey tux as he fitted his bow tie, as well as a few of him around the hotel with his groomsmen and dad. Right from the outset we knew this was going to be a fun day, with the groomsmen constantly cracking jokes and grabbing Jason’s butt as he was trying to be serious during the wedding photo shoot.
Jamie was looking absolutely gorgeous when we arrived at the private estate and we captured a few last minute getting ready photos as she secured her earrings. Her bridesmaids were dressed in flowing navy blue dresses and watched on as her mom and sister helped to fit her bridal shoes. We used the time available to take some beautiful bridal portraits of Jamie with her floral bouquet, designed by the talented Lisa Brazeel, and showing off her elegant form-fitted wedding gown.
Jamie had decided on a first look session with her dad, which we staged in front of one of the rustic houses draped in vines at this country private estate. It was a special moment as he walked towards her and planted a kiss on her cheek, obviously proud at seeing his daughter looking so radiant on this special day.
After a few portraits of the bride surrounded by her bridesmaids, it was time for the wedding ceremony itself, with Jamie’s dad walking her down the aisle to an expectant Jason. The intimate ceremony was held outdoors in the late afternoon light and featured a lot of funny moments thanks to their pastor who was a close lawyer friend of the couple. He made a few jokes about the “two parties signing a contract” in reference to both Jamie and Jason’s careers and one of the best men opened a bag of Cracker Jacks when asked to provide the rings.
After making their recessional walk back down the aisle as husband and wife, we took advantage of the golden hour sunset light for a romantic wedding couple portrait session within the private estate’s date palm grove. While we mostly utilized the natural light which was absolutely stunning, we did capture a few creative portraits within this dramatic setting using off-camera flash.
In the lead up to their wedding day, Jamie had told me she really wanted to capture some portraits on the private estate’s swings. So we made it happen during this sunset wedding photo session, with Jamie blowing Jason a kiss, illuminated by some creative lighting.
Then the reception party kicked into full swing, also held outdoors at this country-themed private estate. From the cake cutting ceremony to the speeches and toasts, and all the dance floor action, we tried to capture all the special moments that made this one of our favorite weddings to date. Towards the end of the night, Jamie and Jason performed a “chair dance”, lifting them up and banging them on the floor, and despite having shot around 250 weddings, this was something completely new for us!
