Historic Spanish Point Wedding – Devon + Doug

Wedding and Reception Location:  Osprey, Florida

Introduction:

Devon and Doug exchanged vows at beautiful Historic Spanish Point, a museum and environmental center that overlooks Little Sarasota Bay in Osprey. It encompasses not only a prehistoric shell midden but also a turn-of-the-20th-century homestead, a whitewashed chapel and gorgeous gardens.

It was our first time shooting a wedding at Historic Spanish Point and we were immediately impressed by the portrait locations and loved that everything was happening in the one place. From the getting ready to the garden ceremony and outdoor reception, it result in a relaxed day for the couple and their guests, many of whom had traveled from out of town for the occasion.

Getting ready photos at Historic Spanish Point

We began the day capturing details shots of Devon’s stunning wedding dress hanging in her whitewashed suite and the floral bouquets she’d chosen, then headed over to where Doug was getting ready with his groomsmen. We grabbed a candid shot as he did up his blazer in a mirror, then moved outside for some casual portraits of the guys in the grounds of Historic Spanish Point.

By this time, Devon had slipped into her dress, so we returned to her suite to capture some creative shots as she made her final preparations and shared in a special exchange with her mom. Despite the windy conditions threatening to spoil her perfect day, Devon was so carefree and just enjoying each and every moment.

We photographed one of her bridesmaids assisting as she put on her wedding shoes, then took advantage of the time available for portraits of the beautiful bride both in her suite and the gardens outside. We also utilized a columned area for some shots with her bridesmaids who were dressed in unique, blue floral dresses.

Ceremony photos at Historic Spanish Point:

Devon and Doug’s garden wedding ceremony at Historic Spanish Point began with the bride being escorted down the aisle by her father, with the stunning decor by Brittany Eagans of Be Wed & EK Event Design. We documented Doug’s reaction in black and white as he watched Devon walk towards him, as well as the hand-off as her father gave her away.

We photographed the couple’s vow exchange from numerous angles, including a wide-angle shot incorporating their wedding guests seated on rustic garden benches. After being pronounced “husband and wife”, we captured the newlywed’s first kiss, then their recessional walk down the aisle with beaming smiles.

Post-Ceremony photos at Historic Spanish Point:

It was then time for a portrait session of the couple in this loved-up moment, beginning first with bridal party portraits incorporating a unique, columned arch. We grabbed a black and white as the group walked towards us, then another as Devon and Doug kissed while their bridal party celebrated around them.

Moving onto romantics, we captured some intimate embraces between the couple and a dip illuminated by an off-camera flash, then utilized the property’s whitewashed chapel that oozed charm. We also grabbed some shots of the couple embracing on one of the garden walkways as they looked lovingly into one another’s eyes.

Reception photos at Historic Spanish Point:

Devon and Doug kicked off their reception proceedings with their first dance, accompanied by the live sounds of the Jah Movement Reggae Band. We snuck away with the couple for a quick sunset portrait session on the jetty of Historic Spanish Point before returning to the reception for a playful cake-cutting ceremony.

It was open dancing for the rest of the night, with the couple and their wedding guests enjoying the celebrations under the stars. We ended the evening capturing some shots of Doug and his groomsmen as they smoked cigars, reveling in the relatively still night once the wind had subsided.

Conclusion

Devon and Doug were such a relaxed couple to work with and we can’t thank them enough for selecting Fallbrook Photography to capture their wedding at Historic Spanish Point. We wish them all the best as they embark on this new chapter together as “husband and wife” and everything the future holds for them.
