Abby and Charlie's Engagement Shoot

September 15, 2017

LOCATIONS:

Longboat Key, Florida

Introduction:

Abby and Charlie’s e-session in Longboat Key was scheduled just a couple of days after the hurricane swept through and I have to say we were a little nervous about how the beaches would look. But to be honest, when we arrived at the beach, you probably wouldn’t have even known that a natural disaster had just hit Florida!

Abby and Charlie live in Cincinnati, Ohio are were down in Florida to meet with their wedding vendors for their special day next summer at The Resort at Longboat Key Club. So we had scheduled in an engagement session just before sunset along a stretch of Longboat Key Beach to the north of St Armands Circle.

Longboat Key Engagement Shoot:

We began at the spacious house where Abby and Charlie were staying along one of the quiet canals in Longboat Key, with lots of lush vegetation and greenery to work with. Then we walked down to the coastal dunes backing the beach and onto the white powdery sands of Longboat Key.

The weather was absolutely perfect and there was a refreshing breeze coming off the water, creating ideal conditions for capturing romantic embraces between the newly engaged couple. We were also really lucky that there was no one else around so we had plenty of freedom to move throughout the e-session.

When we’d asked Abby and Charlie about how comfortable they felt in front of the camera, she had indicated a 9 out of 10 while he was only feeling about a 2. But Charlie quickly shook off his nerves and focused on the way he felt about Abby, with the resulting portraits showing no indication of nerves!

We photographed the couple looking lovingly into each other’s eyes and walking hand-in-hand along the sands, with their choice of attire and bare feet giving a really casual feel to this Longboat Key e-session. We grabbed some close-up black and white portraits of Abby affectionately kissing Charlie, as well as an intimate shot of them embracing against a fence railing.

The coastal dunes that back Longboat Key Beach were the perfect setting for some whimsical portraits, with tall grasses that allowed us to get creative from different vantage points. Then we finished the e-session with a more urban-inspired shot of the couple walking down a pathway, with a “sidewalk closed” sign in the foreground.

Conclusion:

It was a pleasure spending the afternoon with Abby and Charlie to capture this e-session in Longboat Key and getting to know them a little more. We’re looking forward to reconnecting next June when they return to Florida for their wedding at The Resort at Longboat Key Club.
