Introduction:
It was only after we had already been booked to capture Katie and Andy’s Siesta Key wedding that I realized she was actually a friend of my cousins. We are both originally from Chicago, so we had an instant connection chatting about places and people we both knew. They were planning an intimate beach ceremony on the white sands of Siesta Key, followed by a reception at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota where they were staying.

Getting ready at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota:
We began the day at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, capturing Katie and Andy in their separate hotel suites as they made their final preparations. We captured sophisticated black and white portraits of Andy in his final moments as an unmarried man, as well as shots of Katie getting ready with her mom (and her five month baby bump!)
We took close-up details shots of her gorgeous wedding sandals, as well as the beautiful bouquet which was supplied by the talented team at Beneva Flowers. While Katie didn’t have any bridesmaids, her mom was assisting her in getting ready, helping to secure her garter and sharing in this special moment.

After grabbing some portraits of Katie looking absolutely radiant in her hotel suite, we headed down to the gardens of the Hyatt Regency Sarasota for her first look with Andy. He walked up to surprise her and it was an emotional moment as they captured their first glimpse of each other on their wedding day.
We used the time available for some portraits of them in this loved-up moment, incorporating the greenery of the beautiful surrounds.

Ceremony photos at Siesta Key:
We then jumped aboard the trolley and headed to Siesta Key where their intimate beach wedding ceremony was to be held. It was an absolutely stunning day, with bright blue skies juxtaposed against the white sands of the beach.
We photographed both wide angle shots looking down the aisle and close-up candids of Katie and Andy as they exchanged vows, then a spontaneous kiss as they made their recessional walk down the aisle as “husband and wife”. We also captured the moment they symbolically threw shells into the water with their wedding guests in a ritual that was new for me!

Post-ceremony Portraits at Siesta Key:
After the official proceedings were complete, we had a short wedding portrait session at Siesta Key, taking advantage of the beautiful sunset light. We captured portraits of the newly married couple walking hand-in-hand through the grassy fields behind the beach, as well as some creative silhouettes against the rapidly changing sky.

Reception photos at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota:
It was then time to head back to the Hyatt Regency Sarasota where the reception was to be held and we grabbed a few shots of the newly weds embracing in the trolley, surrounded by their wedding guests. After photographing their first dance and details shots of their amazing rings (hand-crafted by Katie’s dad), we snuck out from the reception for some nighttime couple portraits in the elegant hallways of the Hyatt Regency Sarasota.

Although we were only with Katie and Andy for around four hours to capture this Siesta Key wedding, it was a really memorable day, filled with love and support from those closest to them. I wish them all the happiness in their married life together and the start of their new family with the arrival of their baby in a few months.
