South Seas Island Resort – Captiva Island – Ashley and Anthony

Wedding Location: South Seas Island Resort

Introduction:

Ashley and Anthony’s wedding was held at the gorgeous South Seas Island Resort, which is located on Captiva Island along Florida’s Gulf of Mexico coast. They were planning an intimate celebration with around 80 of their closest family and friends and were lucky that their wedding date was scheduled before the Covid-19 outbreak.

We’d only chatted with them via Skype in the lead up to their special day and were looking forward to finally meet in person. But what was meant to be a two-hour drive from Sarasota turned into four hours as one of the highways had been shut down. But luckily we always show up extra early to our weddings to scout portrait locations and still had 30 minutes up our sleeves when we finally did arrive.

Getting ready photos at the South Seas Island Resort

We began the day capturing photos of the bride as she prepared in her suite at the South Seas Island Resort alongside her sister and two bridesmaids. Aside from shots of the girls in their gowns making a champagne toast, we also photographed Ashley’s maid-of-honor securing her garter and grabbed some shots of the bride in her stunning Lillian West gown.

Meanwhile, Anthony was preparing with his groomsmen in a separate suite and we captured some creative shots as they waited patiently for the girls to be ready. It was a magical day on Captiva Island, with only a few clouds in the sky – perfect Florida wedding weather!

Pre-ceremony portrait session at the South Seas Island Resort

Ashley wanted to hold the first look on the South Seas Island Resort’s whitewashed dock, which overlooks the pristine waters of Pine Island Sound. Little did she realize that just as Anthony walked up to surprise her, someone had caught a six-foot shark offshore!

We captured the couple’s reactions at seeing one another for the first time on their wedding day, then used the time available for some romantic portraits on the dock. The bridesmaids joined the bride for a few portraits with their Floral Artistry of Sanibel bouquets before we moved to the shaded setting of the resort gardens. Here we grabbed portraits of the bride and groom embracing along a tree-lined path, followed by a shot with their entire bridal party.

Wedding ceremony photos at the South Seas Island Resort

Ashley and Anthony’s wedding ceremony was being held on the Kings Crown Lawn, framed by swaying palms. We photographed the electric violinist who kicked off the proceedings, as well as documenting the moment Ashley’s dad stopped to get a selfie while walking her down the aisle.

The newlyweds sealed their marriage with a kiss before hopping aboard a luxury yacht owned by the bride’s dad and cruising to their cocktail hour at the Sunset Pavilion. We grabbed a few shots as they reveled in this new moment as “husband and wife” and enjoyed a bit of quiet time together.

Reception photos at the South Seas Island Resort

The eight-piece Danny Bub Combo provided music throughout the South Seas Island Resort wedding reception, which began with Ashley and Anthony’s first dance. We snuck out with the couple at sunset for some portraits on the resort’s golf course, followed by a silhouette shot as they kissed while the sky transformed behind them.

After returning to the reception, there were speeches and toasts from those closest to the couple before everyone hit the dance floor to celebrate. We captured shots of the bridesmaids dancing with glow sticks and all the fun of the garter removal, including a playful moment when the best man’s cousin tried to fit the garter while blindfolded.

Ashley and Anthony’s island wedding at the South Seas Island Resort ended with a sparkler send-off, which we documented as the couple kissed while holding a polaroid of themselves. The newlyweds then stepped into a golf cart decorated with the words “Just Married” as their guests headed to an after-party at a local bar.
